Vuarnet Ski Goggles: Sporty with style

Vuarnet is a French Eyewear company founded by the skier Jean Vuarnet, Gold Olympic medal in 1960 in the men's downhill, the first medal won on metal skis. That same year, Roger Pouilloux asked Vuarnet to collaborate in founding the legendary Vuarnet Eyewear company.
I found a really cool vintage Vuarnet in a shop in London and I was curious to know a little bit more about this company. I really appreciate some iconic models, but I particularly liked these ski goggles. They have a lovely retro style with an additional contemporary verve which makes them absolutely unique, chic and cool in a subtle way. I am probably a bit nostalgic, but I love the logo. It might need a little refresh, but ... less is more and I absolutely love it! It also reminds me of the French National Ski Team by Moncler in the early '70.

Fan Optics

When I was snowboarding this winter in the French Alps... ooh la la! haha All was fancy fine until I was bombing it down the slopes and landed on my face.... urrr and glasses.  I've had this pair of frames for the last couple years and felt like they were becoming my identity... the idea of getting a new pair was not overly exciting as I can be very picky when it comes to things like this.  But.... unable to see I had to bite the bullet and hunt around for a new pair, while wearing the broken ones taped together which wasn't really the London look I've been pushing.  So close to Covent Garden there is a wondrous candy store for optics called McClinktocks and low and behold I found my pair.  I was introduced to the brand Fan and fell in love with the Brock frame.  Its a British based company that makes all their handmade frames in England.  The brand was created in 2010 by graphic designer, Sarah Coburn and product designer Guillaume Furminger, since then the Fan Optics aesthetic has been formed with longevity in mind, focused on bringing quality, high finished and most crucially design led product to the independent eye wear market. SOLD!  fan optics

Bob Sdrunk

''I was born in the shade of the “big-dome”, from a very beautiful italian “mamma'' and from a not-so-handsome but very good father… australian. The fusion of my 2 souls, the latin and the british one… gave me a 360° wide culture. I studied in Roma, via di Ripetta, at the “Accademia di Belle Arti”, where I could learn the evolution of the style between the centuries.
With this cultural background I went into the fashion world, going through different experiences, always getting fashinated by little accessories, in particular for shoes and pouches.
During my “Maison” experiences, I’ve always appreciated the style and the tecnique eyeglasses were designed and created with… so I tried to make this culture mine.
During my New York days, I’ve been struck by a fantastic vintage shop in Tribeca, thunderstruck by an infinite display of eyeglasses from different ages, from the beginning of the century to our days.
The exact same night I started to design my own eyeglasses collection: the soul of my collection is split into 2 parts… for one part I saw the eyeglasses through the “vintage” style, that in my opinion is the sum of a sofism.
I’ve searched for other age materials in order to re-create a retrĂ² style.
I’ve had the pleasure to manufacture these eyeglasses in Italy with the wise hands of Master eyeglass-makers, who were able to express themselves at their best of their experience.
For the second part I just thought one word, “easy”, and everything goes around this simple word.''

Project 0734

Do you remember this frame? We were in Liberty and I tried this pair of sunglasses and I loved them! Cutler and Gross has launched a competition with the London School of Fashion. The students are asked to redesign the historical 0734 model. This project made me love even more Cutler and Gross and this frame. It would be really cool taking part in a Cutler and Gross workshop. I actually made a little research asking some opticians about Cutler and Gross and
I got to discover the italian supplier and the background of this great brand. I found a detailed summary in this blog www.jardinsflorian.com.

Cutler and Gross

Here there is the brand of my eyeglasses! They are a bit expensive, but I have been wearing them for 4 years every single day and they look absolutely perfect. They are confortable, strong and I fell in love with them when I got into the store. I'm picky on eyeglasses. I either love (which is rare) or just not...
I'm really really happy about them and even if sometimes I think I should change them, I think I will wait till they don't destroy. Love them!

When i think of eyewear I instantly think of Capote, Woody Allen, and you!  Eyewear defines a look, a character and the type of person you are! I love the oversized, in your face kinda look and I think that is because a statement piece in my eyes should be a statement and worn by an appropriate suiter!  You know the worst look is always when someone can't carry them selves in what they are wearing!  If its to simple i feel shy, if its a little out there I find I stand a little taller (it helps boost my umph) ha! Perhaps thats why I am so in love with a splash of hot pink, stripes on staircases and why i love wearing mens cologne more then womans... but thats for another post.  What i bring you is this collection of recently discovered eye wear... and a sexy video to follow!  Check out the website and get a sense of what the brand Ralph Vaessen stands for! You have great defining eye wear! Where are you classes from?

Love at first sight. I have no words to describe this cardigan. I thought they were a little passed, but this is not a cardigan, this is THE CARDIGAN. I'm in love. I saw it in the window of Dries Van Noten store and I thought it was amazing, today I could ''touch'' it in a store and I fell in love with it...it is just so classy, but neat and new! Love it!
